In the Art Room - Totem Poles

The second grades have bgun a Native American Indian unit in class, so in art we are working on a Totem Pole lessson.  We discussed the history of the totem, who made them, and how they were made.  We viewed many poles and discovered the significance behind the images used.  Then they had to create a symmetrical piece to be a part of a class totem pole.  The drew half the image, outlined with black paint, then quickly folded and pressed the paper to create the mirror image.  They completed with oil pastels.
