In the Art Room - Fall Reflections

I think we've all done this one!  This is a great mono print lesson and the end results are always beautiful.  I did these with 1st grade and they loved it.

In the Art Room - Aboriginal Art

Since the 6th grades study the reasons art has been made throughout time, I thought I would follow up their Egyptian art lesson with an Aboriginal art lesson.  I really liked the contrast of having one culture whose artwork was clearly left in the ancient world and another culture who still creates artwork in the style of their ancestors.  This was a quick project - completed in just one day.  To keep the emphasis on technique and style, I gave the kids tracers to use.

1st Grade Dancing Skeletons - review of geometric and organic shapes.

 6th Grade - Day of the Dead Skulls - continued discussion of the purposes for creating art.

In the Art Room - Koi Fish

This didn't turn out quite like I hoped, but my 3rd graders seemed to enjoy it!  We were studying recurring themes in different cultures' artworks.  We looked at the Koi/Carp fish in Japanese paintings and then tried to create our own versions.  I used steps for the drawing lesson found on smART Class.

In the Art Room - Silly Jack O'Lanterns

Let the Halloween themed projects begin!  I love the expressions the kids give these guys.  This was a first grade project.  We spent week one painting and texturizing paper with forks.  Week two, we cut and glued it all together.

     

    

   

In the Art Room - Ancient Egypt

My 6th graders love this project so it's one I do every year.  I always try to change it a little bit so it doesn't get stale.  I was very pleased with this year's outcome.

In the Art Room - Neutral Owls

Now that the Kinders have been introduced to the primary, secondary, warm and cool colors, all that was left were the neutral colors.  I hadn't done any cutting projects yet, so this project also allowed me to evaluate who knew how to cut and who didn't.  I'm always surprised at how many kindergartners can't use scissors!  We started with a large brown circle, which I taught them to fold into an owl shape.  From there, we cut out eyes, feathers, branches, and moons, glued it all together and called it a day!
