In the Art Room - Pirate Parrots

This lesson turned out great!  It was a simple color review for the primary and secondary colors.  We started with one straight, diagonal line and the kids followed my oral directions for the rest.  They painted the background and used the primary colors for the parrot.  The kindergarten loved them!

In the Art Room - Illuminated Letters

This is one I do every year with the 6th grades and it incorporates so many lessons.  There is color theory, the history of the illuminated letter, painting techniques, and a few more.  I always want the kids to try and reflect their personal style in their artwork. 

In the Art Room - Virginia Cardinals

I do this every year with the first grade but never the same way! This year we learned how to change a circle into a cardinal.  This project was especially satisfying for me because one little guy told his classroom teacher that I teach him how to do things he never thought he could!

In the Art Room - Love Puppies

This is my 100th post!!  Keeping with the Valentine's theme this week, the kinders drew and painted some adorable "Love Puppies"  The pups were made out of hearts.  I started them all off with one upside down heart that we turned into a snout.  Then they followed my oral directions to complete their dogs.

In the Art Room - Polar Bears

I've been on the lookout for a fun polar bear lesson for my kinders as they have a corresponding unit in their classroom.  I love That Artist Woman and find such inspiration on her blog.  This polar bear looked wonderful, and I'm sure had I done it with an older grade I would have gotten better results.  As it was, the Kinders made a quite a mess with the salt and saran wrap.  Even though I didn't quite get the result I hoped for, the kids  left the art room happy and messy!  Check out Gail's site to see how successful this project could be!!!

Here's a fun way to review warm and cool color as well as color mixing.  Plus, anytime we paint, the kids love it.  These are done by the first graders.

The 6th grades did one quick and easy project for Valentine's Day.  They had to create a design integrated into a heart shape.  Some got really creative!
