In the Art Room - Birds
My third graders worked on this one for a couple weeks. We talked about how to position the bird if it was flying vs. sitting in a tree vs. pecking at the ground. We used water color and colored pencils - I wish they had pressed harder with their pencils! Why do kids color so darn light!!!!
In the Art Room - Bottling a Memory
I asked the 5th grades if they had ever heard the saying about bottling up a memory or feeling. Most hadn't, but a few had. I asked them to think of memory that they wished they could bottle up and re-live any time. Then I asked them to make believe that they put that memory inside a paint tube, and every time they squirted the paint, the memory would come out. Here are a couple that I really liked:

In the Art Room - Oreo Art
Carve the creamy vanilla filling of an Oreo into a design? It's almost the end of the year, why not!

In the Art Room - First Grade Caped Crusaders
We're getting closer and closer to the end and I want less and less to set up for painting projects. My classes are also getting interrupted as the grades partake in all of the special end of year activities like field day, field trips, Colonial Day and Medieval Day. I'm looking for quick drawing projects that the kids can easily finish in one class period. I taught the first graders how to draw Batman and Bat girl. The kids really loved these. All though the boys all yelled out when they saw my Bat girl example with pink lips and long eyelashes!!

In the Art Room - Tulip Fields
This was a great lesson for second grade! It covered creating tints, landscape painting, and perspective. We used tempera for the grass and clouds and oil pastels for the tulips.

In the Art Room - Quickie
Any day now, my 8th grade will stop coming to art to begin all day play practice for their big dinner theater performance. So in the mean time I need some quick one period projects for my kids. This was supposed to be a quick tutorial on graffiti tags. For the time they had to complete them, I think they turned out great!
In the Art Room - American Flags
Here are two flag projects, one for sixth grade and one for third grade that were completed in two class periods. I especially like this sixth grade flag because one of their first projects as seventh graders will be Op Art and this served as a great intro. As for the third grades, I had one class cut out their flags and glue them to a firework background while the other class created an imaginary background for their flags. The imaginary backgrounds were much more creative but they got real messy real quick. The firework backgrounds made for a much cleaner finished product.
(that last flag is World War 3, Hamsters vs. Humans just in case you couldn't tell!)
