Indian Chief
4th Grade blew me away with these! We looked at Native American paintings with feathered headdresses. I told them the symbolism of the feather and we discussed how hard it would have been to earn enough feathers to actually make a headdress. We also talked about how the headdress was a work of art in itself.

Curling Snakes
This was an easy crowd pleaser. The 4th grades loved drawing these and once we were done I told them how they could apply the same technique when drawing curling ribbon or vines.

Lichtenstein Portraits
The inspiration for this project came from Roy Lichtenstein of course, but also from the fabulous Art Projects for Kids blog. She has a link to a pre-printed dot sheet the kids can use as a guide for their dots.
After introducing Roy Lichtenstein and his art I demonstrated to the 8th grades how to trace the simple lines of their portraits onto their dot sheets. Next week we will outline with bold black lines and fill in the dots! So far I am very excited for this project. I always mean to do portraits with the 8th grade but time somehow slips away. Here's their first step:

ASL Hands
This took the seventh grade 6-7 weeks to complete. It was hard and I honestly wanted to do more with them, but I think we were all itching to finish at our last class!
BIG Pumpkins
Love these Kinder pumpkins! This lesson hit, secondary colors, warm vs. cool colors, line and shape.

Food Sculpture
Even though I am intimated by sculpture projects, I keep on creating lessons for my kids! The 8th grades looked at Claes Oldenburg's food sculptures and used his work as inspiration for their own pieces. They had to construct their work in such a way that in the end the final sculpture had to be assembled much like some of Oldenburg's work. These pieces are on a much smaller scale than Mr. Oldenburg's!
Trick or Treat!
I love fall and Halloween themed art!! The second graders are reviewing the difference between landscape, portrait and still life and all of their projects will be fall themed. This is their completed still life (also a review of secondary colors!).
