In the Art Room - Royal Playing Cards
I saw this lesson over on Deep Space Sparkle, and I loved the "double dipping" effect! I gave each 6th grade student a playing card for inspiration. I gave them a quick tutorial on how to draw the figures and then they outlined everything with a thin black line of paint. I gave them each a set of warm colors to double dip and a set of cool colors to double dip. Most were able to finish in two 45 minute periods.
In the Art Room - Secondary Color Dragons
Just a quick color review for first grade. They used the secondary colors to paint their dragon. Then we reviewed the definitions of subject and background, drew a horizon line, and added a small castle in the background. They were very pleased with their paintings!

In the Art Room - Peter Max
The 5th grades have to create a poster project for their curriculum, so we created sports competition posters in the style of Peter Max. Everyone had to advertise for a sporting event (either real or made up) and they had to use one of Peter Max's posters as inspiration. They all had to include LOTS of color and interesting text. Painting the entire poster added quite a challenge as they still have such a difficult time controlling their brushes!

In the Art Room - Cows
This was a fun color mixing lesson for the Kinders. In addition to drawing the cows, they had to make their own light blue, pink and light green. This had a LOT of set up, but they are of course, adorable!
In the Art Room - Mardi Gras Masks
I did this one last year with great results. This year the theme was Mard Gras. The kids had to use texture plates and they had to create their own designs with a wooden stylus. They completed the masks with Sharpie markers.
Sorry for the sideways photos! I can't make them rotate!!!!

In the Art Room - Wormholes
This is one I took straight from Mr.E. I did it last year with my 4th grades on a smaller scale and I think that may have worked a little better. Using large paper, as I did this time, took several classes to complete and I honestly think the kids became bored with it.
In the Art Room - Pirate Parrots
This lesson turned out great! It was a simple color review for the primary and secondary colors. We started with one straight, diagonal line and the kids followed my oral directions for the rest. They painted the background and used the primary colors for the parrot. The kindergarten loved them!

In the Art Room - Illuminated Letters
This is one I do every year with the 6th grades and it incorporates so many lessons. There is color theory, the history of the illuminated letter, painting techniques, and a few more. I always want the kids to try and reflect their personal style in their artwork.
